The Cause Collection

Lyrical Poetry

The following songs are arranged just as they appear on the Bein' Spiritual CD,
a collection of twenty-four original songs by the late recording artist Rose Russo.

These songs accompany many of the creative works in The Cause Collection™.

As creative works themselves, their lyrics bring to light intimate perceptions and understandings involved in the process of developing self-awareness.

Enjoy!

Time

Time to prepare and time to sow,
Time to be born and time to grow,
Time to live and get to know,
Time, it takes time.

Time to listen and time to learn,
Time to decide and time to discern,
Time to grow in wisdom,
Time, it takes time.

Time to receive and time to give,
Time to be patiently filled with love,
Time for all things of Earth to be done,
Time, it takes time.

Time, take time, take time to live and know.

Calm Petition

Oh, rose of my composure grow and grow.
Arrange your petals one by one
Around your corolla.

And to the angry world display your claws.
Defend yourself from each grievous cause
That strikes your tender heart.

Oh, rose of my composure never fail
To arrange with subtle heaven scent
And each divine detail.

I guard you in the shadow of my sight,
But never keep you from your love,
Oh, radiant rose, the light.

And when the night approaches I do come
To visit you within your quiet enclosure
And thank you for the goodness you have done.
In giving me the gift of your composure.

Oh, rose of my composure grow and grow.
Arrange your petals one by one
Around your corolla. Ahh . . .

To Be or Not to See

If we listen to our hearts, in time we can see.
If we take a look around, we can find a reason to be.
Self-awareness and social responsibility
Are the ways we develop our potentiality
To live in peace and harmony
Balancing politics and domesticity,
Economics and spirituality.

If consciousness is a door, then spirituality's the key,
The unifying factor in all diversity,
The oneness out of many,
The uni in university.
Without the spiritual there is no unity, no balance, nor harmony,
No peace, nor stability.
If our spirit is alive and in the spiritual we believe,
In being we can live, and in living we can Be!

Web

A life is a web made of thread
Clinging to a frame of mind.
Be wary lest you enter unaware,
And the weaver find you captive there.

Will it devour, or embrace you?
Will you be set free?
What will you be?

The Massacre of Innocence

Adam and Eve were little children
Playing together in a lovely garden.
Along came a snake with its poison venom
And spoiled their innocence for ages to come.

Oh, dear little children,
Guard your innocence as long as you can.
Oh, dear little children,
Life's most fresh and natural in the garden.

When life is simple it's easy to see
What's right and wrong with humanity,
But when it's complicated with subtlety
The truth becomes a mystery.

Oh, dear little children,
Keep life simple as long as you can.
Oh, dear little children,
Avoid deceit again and again.

There's a world of trouble out there
Waiting for those who become aware
Too soon, too much, too late to spare
Themselves from consequences of taking a dare.

Oh, dear little children,
Some things are better untried and unknown.
Oh, dear little children,
It's so hard to unlearn what you know when you're grown.

Oh, dear little children,
What you have is so precious, so good and so true
Grown-ups wish they could be
Just like you!

Think Twice

Manipulator, Manipulator; Manipulator, Manipulator
Must you always be
Pushing our buttons, pulling our strings
Driving everyone crazy over the least little things,
Sending double messages, confusing our souls
Tripping us up the better to serve your goals?
Manipulator, Manipulator

Be nice, to me I'm your daughter
Be nice, to me I'm your son
Be nice, I'm your friend, your parent, your spouse
Be nice, be nice to everyone.
Manipulator, Manipulator

Let me tell you...
Like a wolf in sheep's clothing you pretend to be
So very warm with your false congeniality,
But you're a cool calculator and a real meany
So very cruel with your clever brutality.
Manipulator, Manipulator

Must you always be
Pushing our buttons, pulling our strings
Driving everyone crazy over the least little things,
Sending double messages, confusing our souls
Tripping us up the better to serve your goals?
Manipulator, Manipulator

Let it suffice, to say your welcome's worn out
Let it suffice, not one pull or push more
Let it suffice, to say jerking people around
In this game of life is a foul way to score.
Manipulator, Manipulator

Let me continue...
If someone with nothing better to do
Were to take great pleasure in manipulating you,
Would you submit to the pressure, go along with each tug
And accept that kind of attention as some kind of love? Some kind of love!
Manipulator, Manipulator

Must you always be
Pushing our buttons, pulling our strings
Driving everyone crazy over the least little things,
Sending double messages, confusing our souls
Tripping us up the better to serve your goals?
Manipulator, Manipulator

Think twice, before you push me
Think twice, you can push people too far
Think twice, it's your reputation
There's a very good word for who you are
Manipulator, Manipulator

Think twice, once for you and one time for me
Be nice, if nicely treated you would be
Let it suffice, to say think seriously
About who you are and who you'd rather be.
A manipulator or communicator,
One who keeps the lines open just keeping in touch,
A communicator or manipulator?
Think Twice!

Despirit

I'm thirsty.
I've sought a well to drink from,
A vessel full, I've found none.
I am thirsty.

I'm hungry
I've sought a crust to feast on,
A morsel sweet, I've found none.
I am hungry.

I'm lonely. I've sought that pure communion
That would dissolve my prison.
I've found none.
I am lonely.

Be Longing

Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna believe.
Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna be. Yes, wanna be loved.
I wanna be the best I can.
I wanna know what it's like to belong to the Great I Am.

I wanna be forgiven and know what it's like to be debt free.
I wanna be healed and know what it's like to live wholely.
I wanna be the best I can and know what it's like to belong to the Great I Am.

I wanna be full of grace and know what it's like to have unmerited favor,
Be full of faith and know how to live unafraid of disfavor,
Be the best I can and know what it's like to belong to the Great I Am.

I wanna be understood and be loved for being just me.
I wanna live brotherhood and know the full meaning of we.
I wanna be the best I can and know what it's like to belong to the Great I Am.

Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna believe.
Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna be. Yes, I wanna be loved.
I wanna be the best I can.
I wanna know what it's like to belong to the Great I Am.

I wanna Be!

Spiritual CPR (Change & Personal Renewal)

Drink, drink my cup. Come on up!

When the toils of life weigh heavy on you
Send a song into the air.
As long as you can carry a tune
There's no burden you can't bear.

When chaos surrounds you, be of cheer
and don't dismay.
The darkness of the early hours
begins a brand new day.

To be raised in honor and glory,
To go down in history
You must drink the cup of discipline
and responsibility.

It's hard to tell the moral
Of this story, but I'll try:
If you want to become completely new
You've got to let that old self die.

Drink, drink my cup. Come on up!

Percussive Punch

Wounded in a history
Of battles royal in philosophy,
But blest I've come to be
By forgiving those who've wounded me.

Here a jab and there a joust
While I was learning what it's all about,
A smart, a stab,
By those with clout,
I've been tripped up, shot down, cast out;

But forgive them, for they know not
What they do, nor what I've got
To offer their unfortunate lot
In forgiving them for what they're not.

Peace, love, and tranquility
Are what is needed as a remedy
To heal their wounds
And keep them free
Of infectious disharmony.

Wounded in a history
Of battles royal in philosophy,
But blest I've come to be
By forgiving those who've wounded me.

The Cry of the Intellectually Challenging

Oh, I'm a born intellectual!
I have two very intellectual cats
Who excel at outsmarting the rats.
My dog is also sharp, you see.
He always comes to the point. How like me!
I have a lovely sorrel horse
With lofty ideas of her own, of course!
On my farm I live in reasonable comfort.
Oh, wouldn't you guess?
Who would settle for less
If you're a born intellectual?

You ask me, "What do you have
In common with the simple things of life?"
Suffering is a very common denominator.
I'm in the habit of being misunderstood,
And that is not so good.
It's like being a head with no body to call your own.
And what some call my vice is that I chill like ice.
With a word I can turn the warmest heart to stone.
In a crowded room, I can be all alone.
My ideas are such that they're not heard of much,
And consequently, they're oft considered to be wrong.
It's like saying the Earth is round when others say it's flat,
But let's go around and see if we can get back together, Friend.
Don't let my head get in our way.
All in all, I'm really quite OK.
Give me a try. I'll do the same for you.
You know everyone is different in a unique way.
What more can I say? I know
It's no excuse, but I was born this way.
I don't mean to hurt you by bending your mind.
If I must be myself, is that being unkind?
Should I speak what I see, or pretend to be blind?

Of all the things I've got
The most intellectual is my heart.
It knows things without being told
Like true love is the only pure gold.
My plain and simple heart...

In short, I have a very intellectual farm,
And like my very intellectual arm
It's not much to look at on the outside
(most of the buildings are earth-bermed),
But it's crystal clear, if you get the idea!

Oh, I'm a born intellectual...

Good Idea

I got in touch with the real me
Because I needed to.
Had a long talk with the real me
Because I needed to.
Found out what was going on,
Discovered where I was going wrong,
Found out that it's a good idea to
Get in touch with yourself.

It's such a good idea to get in touch with yourself!

When I was out of tune
I got myself alone.
Asked myself some questions...
"Who am I, how am I, what am I becoming?
When will I, how can I, know where I am going?"

It's such a good idea to get in touch with yourself!

So get in touch with the real you
Because you need to.
Have a long talk with the real you
Because you need to.
Get yourself on the line.
It's worth the effort and the time.
Oh, the satisfaction when you finally
Get in touch with yourself.

When you're out of tune
Get yourself alone.
Ask yourself some questions like...
"Who am I, how am I, what am I becoming?
When will I, how can I, know where I am going?"

It's such a good idea to get in touch with yourself!

Diversity

I'm different, and God's to blame.
He never makes two quite the same.
I'm different. Thank God, I'm different.

You're different. You stand apart.
No one else has what you've got.
You're different. Thank God, you're different.

I wonder why I thought different was wrong
When in fact it's the only right way to get along.
You be you, and I'll be me
Without competition or jealousy.
I can't be you, you can't be me,
But we two can be company.

We're different, but we're not alone.
We're each different, everyone.
We're different. Thank God, we're different.

We're different, but we're really one
Because everything that's under the sun
Is together. Thank God, we're together.
We're together, thank God!

Two-ality

It takes two to seesaw
Two to have more fun than one alone
Two to live in unity, two to sing in harmony
Two to be as one, to get things done in balance
For when one goes down the other comes up
To help the other one get up
Oh, there's nothing like two
Like me and you
Oh, there's nothing like two together!

Fusion

Spirit to spirit, two beings in phase,
Interior dialogue written in space.

Call to me, Darlin', across the starways,
And I'll answer you, Love, on infinite rays.

I'll reach beyond, Love, the limits of time
And transmit to you, Dear, an image sublime.

Listen to me, Love, the voice in the night
Is speaking infinitesimal delight.

Spirit to spirit is face-to-face
Two beings communing within inner space.

Spirit to spirit, two beings in phase,
Interior dialog written in space.
Spirit to spirit, phase to phase. . .

Gratitude

Do you mind if I tell you
How much you mean to me,
How often you are on my mind?
There have been some who could not bear
The burden of my care
And some who just could not take the time.

You are so kind and so loving
And so giving all the time,
And I'll tell you in my way
How much you make my day.
I'll tell you if you don't mind.

Do you mind if I tell you
About the way I feel?
How good it is to know that you are near,
Always willing to help me through
Whatever time or place I fear.

You are so kind and so loving
And so giving all the time,
And I'll tell you in my way
How much you make my day.
I'll tell you if you don't mind.

Do you mind if I tell you
What I've told myself
And what my doubting mind has tried to deny...
That your loving generosity is not a fantasy,
But the realest thing that I'll ever

You are so kind and so loving
And so giving all the time,
And I'll tell you in my way
How much you make my day.
I'll tell you if you don't mind.
I'll tell you if you don't mind.
I'll tell you if you don't mind!

Intervention

I interrupted you, but I'm not sorry.
You were about to put yourself down again.
I interrupted you, but I'm not sorry.
You were in the midst of loneness and pain.
If I hadn't come along, you might have well succeeded
In completing the destiny you'd fated for yourself.

Come along. There's time to start anew.
An absolutely glorious destiny awaits you:
A life full of love, exciting things to do.
Oh, aren't you glad I interrupted you.
I interrupted you, but I'm not sorry.

ONE NEO EON

Now is the time to stop, look, and listen.
It is our time to take a part
In a prosperous new age of peace and dignity
In the new workplace of the heart.
Oh, hear the silence; it sings a song
Of faith at work, so sing along...
Come along with me; if you could it would be beautiful
Come along with me; if you would it could be beautiful.
One and one make ONE when we agree,
And it all begins with you and me!

There is no gift like the present
To undo what keeps us apart.
Pride, greed, and the division of labor
Have no place in the work of the heart.
Oh, hear the silence; it sings a song
Of faith at work, so sing along...
Come along with me; if you could it would be beautiful.

Come along with me; if you would it could be beautiful.
One and one make ONE, unity,
And it all begins with you and me!

Well, come the new age.  Let's get to work on
Whatever good will we can impart,
With a labor of love a true expression
In our new workplace of the heart.
Oh, hear the silence; it sings a song
Of faith at work, so sing along...
Come along with me; if you could it would be beautiful
Come along with me; if you would it could be beautiful.
One and one make ONE humanity,
And it all begins with you and me!

So we are a part of a new revolution,
A radical turn in history.
It's coming to pass, a higher evolution,
On a scale that's planetary.
Oh, hear the silence; it sings a song
Of faith at work, so sing along...
Come along with me; if you could it would be beautiful
Come along with me; if you would it could be beautiful.
One and one make ONE, its time to see
What we can do at work in harmony.

Become!

Come out! Come out!
I know you're in there.
I've seen that shadow in your eyes.
I know you're frightened of the spotlight
That attention might take you by surprise.
I know the feeling of rejection,
The one that makes you want to hide,
But you, too, can dissolve your prison
By expressing the truth you have inside.
Sister, Brother, I need you.
Stand forth! I'll give you a hand,
I'd be the first to agree with you
That it takes courage to take a stand.
But Brother, Sister, we need you
To stand forth and lend a hand.
We all need to contribute what we can to
Renew our culture, our promised land.
Come out! Come forth! Stand forth!

Willpower

Imagine you're an orchestra leader
Bringing all your qualities into play.
Imagine generating melody
Every minute of the day
Accomplishing the things you have to do
Those you love the most and least, too...
Imagine climbing a mountain
Bearing the burdens of the day.
Imagine making progress
Every inch along the way
Climbing up the incline till you view
At last those deeds accomplished that you drew
Upon the board of vision
When you devised from the means an end
To realizing
And began against resistance to contend,
And through your course of action you'll come to
Know that a conscious effort makes a dream come true
And gives life a purpose
A day significance and gleam
A joy spark and ignition
Energy and ambition to perform
Unlocking the key to every door
To self-respect, achievement, and much more
Wielding purchase power
To attain the best life has in store,
For your imagination
The reality that you fashion
The brainchild of your passion
Is the power of your will.
Willpower!

Kaleidoscope

Life is a puzzle, an enigma, a riddle,
A great composition with a hole in the middle,
A fragmented mirror, a lopsided vision,
A fractured mosaic, a complete illusion
Without love.

So here is the question, "What is the worth
Of living it all if to death from birth
You pursue only knowledge, riches, and power
Never spending a moment knowing the power
Of love?"

All your sense of loss felt during the course
Of your life is gone, and you're whole again.
The pieces fit. You can make sense of it!
The image is clear, and the colors appear
Because of love.

It appears when two people go together so well
Something's right. You can always tell.
And you draw the conclusion: you must and you can
Say love's the designer and completer of man...kind.

Life is a puzzle, an enigma, a riddle,
All the pieces fit; they join at the middle.
It's a brilliant mirror, a perfect vision,
An elaborate mosaic, a radiant fusion
When there's love.

Love, Let there be love, powerful love.
Let there be love!

Your Heart's Desire

Form a little hope
From feeling and thought, the sire
Burnish it with love,
And it becomes a little fire...

Burning in you heart,
Sending flames higher and higher.
Fan it with inspiration,
And it becomes a desire...

Burning in your soul,
An all-consuming fire,
Demanding your resources
To fuel its blazing spire.

Tend to this sacred service,
Sacrificing all to the holy fire,
As it melts all resistance,
And you'll have your heart's desire!

Your heart's desire
You'll have your heart's desire.

Free Spirit

I want to sing my song wherever I go
And tell the people there I love them so
How much I care and what it means to share
All that I am everywhere.

I want to heal the sick and raise the dead
I want the lame to rise and leave their beds
The nations to stand for the rights of man
And beat their weapons into plowshares...

And when the sun brings the Golden Age of Man
to rest in love and peace upon the land
The anthem will ring, "of Being I sing,"
For now and forever I am!

Insight

Oh, wouldn't you know? Oh, wouldn't you know.
Perfect love is life abundant, wouldn't you know.
It's the master key to eternity.
It opens the door to the treasury of all that can be
Perfect in truth and beauty.
Insight says so. Oh, wouldn't you know.
Insight says so, and that's how you know.
That's how you know.
